Aluminium Purification Grade Salt

Aluminium Purification grade refined Salt is used in the purification of aluminium, particularly in the removal of impurities like oxides and dross. It is added to molten aluminium to facilitate the separation and removal of impurities, resulting in high-quality aluminium products.

Features:

  • High Purity: Aluminium Purification grade salt is highly purified, typically exceeding 99% sodium chloride (NaCl). This high purity ensures minimal impurities that could interfere with the aluminium purification process.
  • Particle Size: The particle size of Aluminium Purification grade salt is carefully controlled and finely ground to ensure rapid dissolution and uniform distribution in the purification process.
  • Low Moisture Content: It is dried to have very low moisture content. This low moisture content is critical as moisture can affect the chemical reactions and purity of the final aluminium product.
  • Free-Flowing Nature: Aluminium Purification grade refined salt is formulated to be free-flowing, which facilitates easy handling, mixing, and dosing during the aluminium purification process without clumping or clogging equipment.
  • Solubility: It is designed to dissolve quickly and completely in water or other solvents used in the aluminium purification process, ensuring rapid and efficient use without leaving residues.
  • pH Stability: It maintains a stable pH when dissolved in water or other solvents used in aluminium purification, ensuring consistent conditions for the chemical reactions involved.
  • High Melting Point: Aluminium Purification grade salt is selected for its high melting point, which ensures stability and effectiveness at the elevated temperatures used in aluminium refining processes.
  • Chemical Inertness: It exhibits high chemical inertness, meaning it does not react with other chemicals used in the purification process, thereby maintaining the integrity of the purification reactions and aluminium product.
  • Ion Exchange Capacity: Aluminium Purification grade salt may possess specific ion exchange properties that aid in the removal of impurities such as iron and silica from the aluminium refining process, contributing to the production of high-purity aluminium.
  • Long Shelf Life: Aluminium Purification grade salt is designed to have a long shelf life when stored under proper conditions, ensuring that it remains effective and stable over extended periods.
  • Cost-effectiveness: Aluminium Purification grade refined salt is engineered to offer cost-effective solutions for aluminium purification, balancing performance with economic considerations to maximize value for aluminium producers.

Benefits:

  • High Purity: Offers a high level of purity, ensuring a consistent and effective performance in purification processes.
  • Improved Efficiency: Enhances the effectiveness of aluminum purification processes, leading to better yield and quality.
  • Consistent Quality: Provides uniformity in performance, reducing variability in industrial applications.
  • Enhanced Safety: Reduces risks associated with impurities that could cause adverse reactions or compromise safety standards.
  • Facilitates Reactions: Acts as a crucial reagent in chemical reactions, helping to optimize processes in aluminium production.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Improves process efficiency, potentially lowering operational costs over time.
  • Easy Handling: Facilitates straightforward application and dosage control in treatment processes.

Applications:

  • Desilication of Bauxite: Refined industrial salt can be used in the Bayer process, which is the primary method for extracting alumina (aluminium oxide) from bauxite ore. In this process, salt helps in the removal of silica (SiO₂) impurities from the bauxite ore, improving the efficiency of alumina extraction.
  • Electrolytic Cell Maintenance: In the Hall-Héroult process, which is used to electrolytically reduce alumina to aluminium metal, refined industrial salt can be added to the electrolyte. This addition helps to control the composition and properties of the electrolyte, which is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and stability of the electrolytic cells.
  • Fluxing Agent: Salt acts as a fluxing agent during various stages of aluminium refining and purification. It helps to lower the melting point of impurities, facilitating their removal from molten aluminium or aluminium alloys. This fluxing action improves the quality and purity of the final aluminium product.
  • Alloy Production: Industrial salt is used in the production of aluminum alloys. It aids in the purification of alloys by facilitating the removal of impurities and controlling the melting points of alloying elements, thereby improving the mechanical and metallurgical properties of the alloys.
  • Deoxidizing Agent: Refined salt can be used as a deoxidizing agent in aluminium refining processes. It helps to remove oxygen and other unwanted gases from molten aluminium, improving the metal's purity and mechanical properties.
  • Chemical Reactivity: Salt's chemical reactivity can be harnessed in specific chemical treatments or reactions involved in aluminium refining and purification, aiding in the separation and purification of aluminium and its compounds.
  • Heat Treatment and Surface Treatment: Salt can be employed in heat treatment processes of aluminium and its alloys to modify their mechanical properties or in surface treatment processes to improve corrosion resistance, adhesion of coatings, or surface finish.
  • Casting and Foundry Applications: In aluminium casting and foundry operations, refined salt acts as a flux to improve the flow of molten aluminium, reduce oxide impurities, and enhance the quality of cast aluminium products.
  • Aluminium Powder Production: Refined salt can be involved in processes related to the production of aluminium powder, where it may aid in particle size control, purity enhancement, or other aspects of powder metallurgy.
  • Metal Fluxing and Cleaning: Industrial salt can be used as a fluxing agent and cleaning agent in the purification of aluminium scrap and recycled aluminium. It helps to remove impurities and improve the quality of recycled aluminium products.
